Is it worth getting a gumshield custom made from your dentist? Has anyone here done that? Or should I just stick with my bright orange boil and bite one? ;)

I have a dental appointment on Monday (joy!) so thought of bringing it up while there.

personally i dont think it would make the world of difference to protection, as if your gonna get hit in the face its gonna hurt no matter what you have in your mouth, but it would be a better/more comfortable fit and in the event that your face did bounce off the floor or a wall(which i've never seen) the teeth would be kept in place better if it was hard enough to dislodge them. But most of us have the crappy boil and go ones and we're all ok...there is a link in the gear section where you can get cool designed ones, leopard print, hillbilly teeth, union jack...

I used to have a Dentist molded gumshield for rugby and i also used the cheaper one. The only difference is price. I find the boil and mould yourself easy quick and work exactly the same as the dentist moulded one. save your self £20-30!

P.S. aslong as u mould the cheap one so that it stays in your mouth even when you open it as wide as u can. then u have done it properly

also there may be some different coverage with a dental one, like mine from canada had a coverage insurance of 100$ per tooth if lost while wearing it properly etc. A dental one might have a higher coverage per tooth, and/or better ability to prove it was fitted right, yada yada. This might be useful if you've had any expensive dental work done, veneers or something.
Best to ask your dentist the pros and cons really. However most derby girls get by ok with normal gumshields.
Theres also gumshields.com which ive heard good things about.

My best advice is to not fall on your face :P
