I thought it might be helpful for fresh meat if people gave a breakdown on what they were using, what their dream package might be, and why.

I'm on:
Rock Flame Skates
Fugitive wheels with pushers (in V formation)
Bones Red bearings

Bullet elbows
Anarchy wrists
TSG knee pads (the ones that kinda look like bullet or anarchy)
Tesco helmet (huzzah!)
Run of the mill Sin City Mouthguard

Rock flame skates are NOT top of the line, theyre your basic starter skate but I wear them because a) I'm a geek who likes flames b) they're good for people with WIDE FEET. Other skates i've tried on just dont fit my fat ass feet. So if you have narrow feet I wouldnt suggest them.
Fugitive wheels are a really good all around wheel that are prob the most popular in derby.
Bones reds are bearings you should get. Period. Theyre made for skating and not machines, so theyre not abec rated. Theyre best value for price. If you have money to blow there ARE better bearings out there, but if your looking for your basic kit, go for bones reds.

Elbow and wrist guards are rather run of the mill... if you're well worried about your wrists maybe u wanna make sure you have good wrist guards, but the real part you need to worry about is KNEE PADS
Youre gonna fall on your knees and ALOT, so get some good ones. If you have knee problems maybe you should invest in some TSG force III or Rector Fat Boys, something with good support and padding.

My dream kit...
maybe i would get some riedell wickeds in a cool ass color.
Answer wheels would be top of my list. Omegas are good for jammers, Margy uses a mix of two different answer wheels, I would probably get some g-rods or d-rods if I had money to blow.
Swiss bearings! Or if youre real rich, ceramics! Swiss bearings roll longer, wich means better coasting time. Which means you could prob get through the pack as a jammer without pushing as much. Ceramics are really good because they dont wear down, and they wont rust if they get wet!
As for kneepads, I've always been a fan of pro-tec but theyre hard to get :-/
and tripe-8 anti gloves, theyre basically like little tiny wrist guards, very neat!

Do you know how much Bones Red baring cost roughly? I'm putting together a rather derby heavy x-mas list this year...

Ignore me, I stopped being a lazy arse and found out myself! Looks like Bones Red are around £20 a set and Bones Swiss are around £50 a set. Must remember to ask mama scott to get two sets...
