So Ive been looking around for some decent starter skates.

Whats peoples opinions on these Riedell 'Red Wing' Bandit skates?

http://www.everglides.co.uk/zc/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=374

Has anyone got these? are they any good?

These are really low end skates and although these will be fine to get you started, the price generally correlates with the quality. The plates will be heavy and you won't be able to adjust the toe stoppers. But they are better than the hockey skates and the 70s disco boot skates! Hoewever I personally believe once you're bout ready you'll want to upgrade.

The R3 are generally the starter skate of choice. Some have Sure Grip Rocks with flames, I've seen a few rollergirls on Torqs.

Sorry not to be so much help here! I know everglides do a great deal if you are lucky enough for them to have your size at the time! What kind of budget do you have?

If you can make it to her shop in southgate she could make sure you get the right ones for you.

I dont want to spend too much, so I was hoping i could get a starter pair for around £60.

I assume that the skates are the most important piece of kit to get first, cos i wanna be comfortable while learning the basic skills - as it seems u need to put a lot of confidence in your feet - whereas the pads are pads, the high saftey aspect of this kit are not really needed until after ive learnt how to skate, therefore i can wait to buy them.

I most definately will go check out the 'Skate Attack' shop at some point, do they have more skates on offer than is on the website?

Having said that, if you think it will be worth my while holding off till i can afford more, then maybe i shall do that, and get a better quality boot.

OK, so it seems that everywhere in the UK are selling the R3s for around £120, yet when i go onto American websites, they are selling them for around $100 - (£60)

http://store-1161702141.amazonwebstore.com/Riedell-R3-Jam-Skates-Quad-Skates/M/B000K36VWI.htm For example.

Why is this? Would it be worth ordering in from there? I assume no cos by the time u add on shipping price, it becomes the same price as here anyway.

Ohh it seems like im getting trigger happy with these posts! Sorry!

No probs! By the time you pay postage and customs it works out much the same really. If you only have £60 to spend on skates for now I would go for the Bandits. They will be fine and they will never be a waste as when you do eventually upgrade, they will become your outdoor skates (so you don't have to keep changing wheels everytime you want to go out) - or you could sell them on to another newbie.

I personally waited til I could afford the R3s and got them from Von Bitch at Skate Attack with a rollergirl discount .

Speak to Bitch - she can advise you & Skate Attack can get anything in that you want! Have a mooch around Sin City Skates - http://sincityskates.com/ - it's derby owned and operated so they give good advice on there. I generally do all my research about what's out there and then go to Von Bitch for her advice & the goods!

I did have a look at the sincity site the other day, but it did not load properly. I shall try again now tho.

After speaking with my boyf he thinks that getting a better pair initially is always worth it, and seeing as im making him pay for them, i think ill listen to him :p

I think therefore we could raise the price up to bout £100 if I find some i simply connot live without!

My shoes size is 7, or 8 if they come up small. And obviously any that come with Red on are gonna be great!

Im sure i was gonna write something else, but cant remember what. Hmmm

Can someone reccomend some good skates for me please, my R3s were giving me terrible jip over the weekend, my foot turns too much in them now no matter how tight my laces are.

Yet again I need your help Bitch, you know I'm useless at the techi side.

Cheers!
